Banjara Kasuti is an amalgamation of trending fashion & heritage with sustainable ethics.

Our mission is not only to preserve the vanishing culture & hand-embroidery techniques of the Lambani ladies of the Vijayapura region but also to uplift them, financially and socially.

For the past 7 years, we’ve been supporting the entire ecosystem & empowering the Lambani ladies and cotton & khadi weavers in and around Vijayapura through our initiative in the fashion industry; encouraging them to learn new weaving & embroidery techniques and patterns. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we continued to support the artisans financially, without any pay cuts.

Each Banjara product line is sustainable, hand-selected, meticulously curated, intricatedly designed and has a story, origin and vindication of its own.

Banjara Kasuti is an initiative that not only aims to bring dignity, social security, and financial independence to the Lambani ladies but also to preserve their clothing traditions by inculcating their heritage into modern-day clothing.

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY

A concept by Asha Patil & Seema Kishore.

Mrs. Asha Patil, born in Vijayapura which is home to the huge lambani community as well, observed that the women of this community were giving up on their traditional attires and shifting to synthetic sarees. She then developed the vision to bring back the beautiful lambani handwork and also uplift the ladies' community. Thus, Banjara Kasuti was started. Her friend, Seema Kishore joined the mission and brought in her expertise in operations. Now, Banjara Kasuti is happily supporting the lambani community and weavers around with their line of handcrafted embroidery and accessories.

OUR IMPACT

At present, more than 60-80 women of the Lambani community are benefitting from Banjara Kasuti with fixed monthly wages based on the quality of their skill set. Banjara Kasuti uses only handwoven fabrics, supporting the weaver community too. As a result, the communities are slowly becoming self-sufficient and its members are proud of their new weaving & embroidery skill set. With this initiative, we aim to reach 120 women by mid-2023 and ensure that all families in the Lambani community have access to banking services, education and healthcare.

FINANCIAL UPLIFTMENT & INCLUSIVE

Refining in designs & visual merchandising is also provided by expert trainers to keep the women artisans well-versed with the colours, latest fashion, & trends.

CULTURAL REVIVAL

Banjara Kasuti strives to foster the Lambani ladies whose handicrafts have been playing the game in all their textures & vibrant colours way before the term ‘sustainable’ became the buzzword. We envision providing Lambani artisans with great opportunities to earn daily wages by creating comfortable silhouettes while attempting to preserve & revive the tradition by seamlessly infusing hand-weaved fabrics.

DEDICATION TO CRAFT

Our collection is truly inspired by Lambani art, highlighting their colours, patterns, & traditional heritage. At Banjara Kasuti, we are committed to creating cordial clothing that can be worn by everyone, regardless of their size, shape, or style. We believe in celebrating our differences - so we design clothes that truly reflect who we are!
